personally, i wouldn't spend that much money for coaxials. i'd step up to components for that money. right now i'm looking for better clarity than stock for around $50/pair for at least 3ways. this is what i was looking at:

3 way

5x7s

6x8s

...and yes, I did SEARCH first before asking.

The implementation of most 3-way triaxial speakers sucks. A good tweeter can play reasonably flat from 4000-20kHz. A good midrange can play from 80Hz to 50kHz. So, why would you need another speaker and crossover to taint the sound?

Here's another option for you: Get some tweeters and crossovers now and you can upgrade the mids later. My first setup was a sub, tweeters, some caps and an inductor, and an amp to drive them all. It sounded a whole lot better and allowed me to postpone some better mids and crossovers which I did later.

I put these new Pioneer 6x8's in all four of my doors. I really like them. They're being driven by a Rockford Fosgate amp, 50 watts x 4 into 4 ohms. Just a suggestion, hope you like!

These are the infinity reference 5752cf. The reference series is the only one that features a soft dome tweeter. I am getting new speakers all around because i made the mistake of Hooking them up this week and fell in love with the sound.

I have a set of the 6.5 in the g/f car. SWEET!

cheapest place for them as well! Check and see.

apt, so u wouldn't recommend 3 way coaxials. u dont think there's any benefit? i definitely want better sq than stock and want to keep them to about 50 bucks/pair for at least 2 ways.

I recommend going to a local store and listening to a few modesl and decide for yourself. But, I do not understand the purpose of a 3 or 4-way speaker when the alrgest one is onlt 6x9 or 6x8.

The best sounding speakers are;
Image Dynamics Compression Horn Drivers.

SQ; Exceptional
Power Handling; Exceptional
THD; Exceptional
Cost; They are pretty expensive
Benefits; don't have to worrky about crossovers
don't need alot of power
it is one speaker that does the job of three (tweeter, midrange, and midbass)
speakers can be placed almost anywhere without affecting the sound stage
Downside; they cannont be mounted in stock speaker location

A pair of 6" mids with 1" tweeters in the front doors and a pair of two wait 5"x7"in the readr doors give a really nice sound, stage the sound very well and install easily (both the 5"x7" and 6" drop in. The 1" tweeter can be mounted anywhere.

The compression horns are way to small to provide midbass. They can however reach upper midbass freq. The best? You could certainly argue they are among the best, but I wouldn't just hand them the crown as the best available. There are literally dozens of drivers that are as good.
