I just bought a brand new dvd burner and was playing a dvd on my computer and about every 2 min everything freezes, lags for about 3 seconds, then begins to play normally again. Can anyone give me some help on what the problem could be.
my system specs are... processor - P4 3.0 Motherboard - Asus p4c800-e Deluxe Ram - 1 Gig corsair XMS Extreme (PC 3200) Vid Card - MSI Ge-force 5900fx HD - maxator 7200rpm 200 gig (sata) DVD burner - Plextor PX-712SA (sata) PS - Antec true power 430 watt
Also it wouldent be because of a overheating problem, i have a koolance watercooled case and the processor reaches a max of 31 celsius. Thanks in advance for any help.

You forgot to include what software your using to play the DVD. Maybe a bad codec, or something hoging the system resources. Worst case it's the burner. Did you buy it new or used/off of someone?
Any scratches on the disc?
On a side note it would be best to buy a seperate DVD drive that is specifically used for ripping/watching DVD's as using your DVD burner for both ripping, watching, and burning will kill it's life span....

The dvd burner is about 2 days old got it new off of Newegg.com. the software i am using is Intervideo windvd 4 (5.1 channel) I tried using a program that came with the burner called interactive but it wouldent support 1280 x 1024 resolution... or any other resolution i tried now that i think of it.
And another thing is that this is all on a fresh install of windows about 1 day old... the computer is not connected to the internet... and thats about all i can think of. and the disk is as good as new... no scratches

Definatly sounds software related to me. Try finding a copy of Win DVD and try that program. If all else fails there is always the posibility that the drive is bad....

Download Windows Media 10. I haven't liked any WinMedia players up untill now. WinMedia 10 is great so far and I haven't had any peoblems with it. It lacks many popular codecs but it plays DVD's like a dream.

I have EXACTLY the same problem !! I switched from Intervideo to CyberDVD ... now it's much better. I still have some trouble with 1280x1024 though, so I usually go down to 1024x768...19" TFT's aren't the best for movies unless you're rich!
