The temp gauge sender, which is located on top of the thermo housing, is not working right on mine. I was told to test it by removing the electrical connection, and then seeing if the gauge went to hot. When I tried to start the car w/ this removed, it wouldn't turn over. Any reason why it would do this? Or am I not pulling the right connection? The thingy I'm talking about is directly on top of the thermo housing, and very easily accesable.

You pulled the ECT.
The gauge sender looks similar.

Well, I'm getting conflicting stories about this.
I assume you have plugged it back in and started the engine?
The other sensor should be seen at the rear of the engine to the right of the oil filler cap and under the intake resonator. Try that one.

I know on my 95, the ECT has a two pronged electrical connection and the one for the temp sender for the dash has a one post connection that the connector slips onto. The one for the dash is on top of the coolant distribution and the ECT is on the back side, facing the back of the car. The ECT is a real pain to get to.

The one I am talking about is in this location. So the ECT and the temp gauge sender are in the same unit??

No, they are seperate.
The ECT should stick straight up at the back of the head from the water outlet.
The sender sticks forward toward the radiator and is below and to the passenger side of the large radiator hose comming from the thermostat housing.

I found it, but I can't get the connector off, my hands are too big. So should I just replace it, since I have to drain the coolant system, and the part is under $20? And does anyone know the part number? All I can usually find is the ECU.
