I was wondering if anyone else has had this odor.

Recently, I have been getting a odor that I haven't had before.
When it happens: Right after turning on the car, inside the car (it goes away after a minute or two)
It also seems to be there in the garage at the house during the 'cool-down' period.
Basically it smells similar to what you would smell if you were standing in a mechanics bay ...you know that garage smell . Not a strong fuel smell, more like how your hands would smell after replacing a drive axel etc.
I checked the oil, no leaking or anything. Checked around under the hood, can't see anything out of the ordinary, although the smell seems to be coming from the front of the car.
If anyone else has encountered this, please let me know..it has me stumped.
Thanks.

Has the cabin air filter been changed?

brakes okay...?

Doubt it's that, but my brakes stuck on the rear and it made a nice chemical smell.

A slightly sticking calpier might be heating those pads up...

Try washing your engine. Might just be too much gunk built up on it. There is a how-to in Aesthetics, right here.

brakes are new. I've had the sticking caliper smell before on my old probe GT...burning metal, so I know it isn't that. The rotor got so hot, it gave off heat like a stove top element, and actually started to melt parts of the braking system.

I thought about the cabin filter but the odor is also on the outside of the car after parking, so I thought that ruled that out...I could be wrong. The engine bay is spotless.
Not sure what else it could be. I thought perhaps a slow valve cover leak maybe...is that a common thing on these cars?

Worth a shot but ona couple of cars I have had, the ignition switch would start to smell when i turned the car off, just as it was going bad. Give it a sniff and se what you think.

I'm assuming the car has an issue with the emergency brake. After I start the car and warm up, the car is sluggish off a roll after letting go of the accelerator and feels as if something is dragging.
Last night i drove a 1.5 km drive home slowly as it was stuck again and thankfully it was late at night so driving slow was not a problem.
I get out of the car and i smell something as if metal or electrical parts were burning. I walked by the side of the car and i see the BURNING RED rotors on both rears, i'm freaking out. too hot to touch obviously, i'm just wondering what the problem is. I will not engage the emergency brake anymore. I'm stumped though, as the e-brake handle is down and the light is off.

what can i do?

One of the following is your problem:

Defective brake line (collapsed internally)
E-brake cable (seized)
Caliper (Seized/sticking)

Also, with the rotors having been that hot I would be ready to anticipate a little warpage... (shudder in brake pedal upon use, etc)
