I've only had my 1998 Ford Contour SE Sport for less then a month, and know nothing about it's history. I went to the dealer yesterday to order that resistor pack for the blower and found it was still covered under the recall after they checked my vehicle VIN with the recall history.
I'm kicking myself though since I wish I would of asked if this vehicle has had all recalls taken care of. I don't even know which recalls it had though, so I was wondering if there's a place here or online where I can find them?
I tried looking around the site here and I know recalls are talked about on their own, but I was looking for more of a list for each specific car or model year.
I came across this article online just now about the coil springs on my modle year which surprised me:
ΓΆβ?¬ΒΆ 1998 models of the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique built at the Kansas City Assembly Plant. The front coil springs can corrode and fracture and possibly puncture a tire. The recall involves 108,000 cars registered in the District of Columbia and 20 northern states with high concentrations of salt on the road.
I guess it surprised me since people at the dealer yesterday with Ford Focus's were there asking about a same recall on their vehicles. I don't get why Ford hasn't done something if there was already a problems years ago with the springs? On my Mom's Focus her recall notice said that they would just extend the warranty of the springs to something like 10 years or 240,000km's.
This is my first Ford though, so I'm not up to date on issues. I've had GM, Chrysler, and Honda before, but not Ford. I really like this Contour though, but it seems like many little things don't work like that blower or how the trunk doesn't pop up and I need to get this other spring thing for that. I worked in a assembly plant for Chrysler for 9 years, so I can relate to these things, but it sure is annoying when buying a used car and none of the owners before me took the time to fix these things.
Sorry to ramble on..
