I'm helping out a friend of mine with her '99 Contour. The A/C does not come on at all (system is fully charged). In addition, the blower motor only runs on "high". I've read a lot about substandard wiring and the possible need for the blower motor switch recall (01M07) and resistor pack recall (01S22). I've checked the recalls and find that neither apply to this year car, however I'm wondering if these could still be problems. Has anyone else experienced this problem on a '99 model year? Also, is it possible that replacing the resistor pack might fix not only the fan running only on high but the A/C not coming on as well? Any advise would be appreciated.

thanks CSVT985, I DID read that one which was very helpful, however I'm finding that neither of these recalls applies to a '99 model year. That said, I suspect the same problem still was occuring in later year models even though Ford didn't make the recall applicable. I'm wondering if other '99 and later owners have experienced the same problems.

For the high only fan speed, replace the heater resistor, or what you call resistor pack. That will solve this problem, but probably not the A/C problem.

Do you hear the compressor clutch kicking on and off and doing the cylces?

Nic.

Thanks Nick, I'll give it a try....no, A/C does not engage at all when turned on. I suspect there is some kind of relay/electrical problem going on....

I suspect your problem could be a bad AC pressure switch. Pressure switch sends signal to the AC clutch relay.

Thanks Tassman,

Do you have any advise regarding where this pressure switch is and how to replace it? I would think if it is fairly easy to access it shouldn't be a big job.

I took my 1998 Contour Se to the dealer today for the Resistor Pack recall and it IS still covered. At least at this dealer. Not sure if it's because mine is a different year. I'm getting it replaced free on Monday by the dealer. Under recall 01S22. I live in Canada also.

I had to replace my resistor pack, first week I owned the car.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Thanks Tour De Force,

I see you also own a '99 model year. Was your covered under the recall or did you have to pay for it yourself? Also, was the fix limited only to the resistor pack or did it affect wiring and/or the actual switch as well? This looks so inexpensive/easy that I might as well just buy the part and do it myself. Was it only your fan that was affected or did your A/C not come on as mine is doing?
