well i have a 98 svt.. and yesterday i was driving like normal and then my car started smoking from behind the cig. lighter connection. i got a little scared so i pulled over and looked all over the place and didnt see anything.. now i dont knwo what to look for.. maybe wires?? i disconnected my ciglighter radar detector and turned off my stereo and turned off my heater and it went away.. hhmm???
i felt the side panel of that plastic thing under the stereo and it was hot!!! is that normal?? i had the heater on high.. so i turned off my car and waited like 5 minutes and the smell still stayed but i looked everywhere.. ( i was on the road.. dressed for an interview....) and couldnt find anything.. so i drive along and now everything is ok... but i want to know what to look for so it wont happen again.. now im in alaska and i have no place to work on it.. or anything.. so what should i do? and im broke right now ( christmas season and beginning of the month, bills..)) so what does anyone suggest??

i doubt it but is anyone in my part of town???? hahaha.. i doubt it..

is there anyother info that you all need from me????
i really dont knwo what to do??? im stumped?? i dont even know how to remove that cig. lighter/cup holder plastic thing apart??????????

hi

it sounds like the cig lighter went bad, you prolly need to pick up a new one. they are pretty cheap and you can get them at any hardware store or any store with an automotive department should have them. here is a link to how to remove that cup holder thing and the center councl, i think:

Im not sure how you can get to the wires with out removing that thing. There are 2 screws on either side of the cup holder thing but I cant get it out because of where it attaches to the shifter. So I think you need to take the whole think apart. Ive never had this problem, so id wait until some more people respond just to make sure.
Good Luck

P.S. Are you using winter tires or all season. Im sure its a stupid question. Im looking for a set of winter tires for these crazy hills in Houghton and I was wondering if youve had good experience with a certain kind.
