Luckily the resale values of the Miata are strong. If you can negotiate a good price out of the Miata, you might be in decent shape regarding negitive equity. The Miata is a pretty strong little car with excellent reliablity. I think they gave me $3,000 for My mint SVT with higher mileage (98,000) toward the purchase of my Miata. Check the pics for both cars in my sig.

I thought they had given you $4K? And you were asking if anybody wanted to buy your SVT for $4500 ... (and I said I did but couldn't .. haha)

It all depends on the dealer. Pontiac would not go a Penny over 4K on my 98 CSVT with 64K miles. I went down the street to toyota and ended up getting $5400, plus they let me take all my stuff out of it without replacing it with old parts. I did leave the MAF adapter and filter.

Trade-ins are for chumps. You're stupid if you trade in a car. Plaiun and simple. The dealer rapes you on it, then turns around and make another 70% minimum off you. Sell it yourself in the Autotrader. It's not hard at all. I think it comes down to patience. People just decide they want a new car and can't be patient enough to take the time, sell the car themselves and then go buy a new one.

Yep. Dealer makes boat loads of of impulse buyers. The only car I ever traded in was my Mustang on my Tour. Paid $5400 for the Mustang. Drove it for 5 yrs. Got $1200 for a rusting out 120k Mustang. I figured for $1000 a year I got my $ worth. That's the only way I'd trade in a car.

When I wanted to buy my SVT, the dealers wanted to give me $6000 for my Eclipse GSX. I know mods aint worth crap, but it had an exhaust suspension, FMIC, 16G Turbo and a bunch of other stuff and I wasn't going to let a clean, fast, 13s car go for 6k! So I sold it for $13500 on Autotrader in 1 week of posting the add, and then bought my 2000 SVT for $17500 w/ 12k on the clock. FUGG the dealers!
