Hello guys, Sorry for the stupid question but Ive searched without inputs Has someone tried to change the trunk struts, it seems impossible to reach the back end of the strut. Any advice would be great.

Contiques don't have struts. It's an hinge with an arm attaching to the trunk lid.

Actually my 96 Mystique does have them, ( dealer confirmed this also, you have to really look but they are back there, believe me. As noted, the rear one is impossible to get to, have no idea how to replace them and when I tried the weld broke free from the frame and just fell off. I made a makeshift strut/holder for the trunk lid as mine will not stay up without it.

Someone posted receintly that it was reasonably easy with the rear seat folded out of the way. That won't help those of you that don't have folding rear seats.

My trunk is getting dangerous. It was completely open and suddenly it got close hitting me in the head. So I decided to change the struts, but I cant reach one end. I have tried folding the seats, but there is no access.

I changed them from within the trunk. It's pretty tight access, but straight forward. Just pop the old ones off, I don't remember there being and retaining clips on them. Make sure the new ones are for Contiques with a spoiler if you have one, otherwise they won't be stiff enough to support the extra weight.

i have hit my damn head on the trunk lid at least 10x in the past few weeks as this stoopid thing seems to position itself in such a way that the horizontal part (when open) is juuuust where my forehead is.
