Hi guys,

Are there any details yet of the security features of the new FantomFaceXL units? It looks like I might end up getting one of these cos although I'm not keen on the non-removable face the other units in the 2002 lineup don't look too great. I want a high-end unit with CDRW capability and hopefully optical, seems like the 7998 is the one to go for.

I'm just hoping that Alpine are not relying on the hidden face to be a deterrent. The old Kenwood Mask proved that doesn't work, so newer units have the transponder thing for security and also allow the face to be removed. Are there any similar features on the new Alpine?

Well, it doesn't look like the Phantom Face decks have a removeable face from the pictures, but the relase might be on the side. I can agree with you that hidden faces do not deter theft all the time. The FF will look like a normal alpine HU with the face removed though. when the face is hidden most people would think it was just an HU with the face removed. Some people will break in anyays I suppose. As for the Alpine working with the Mobile Mayday I can't say either.

All I know is it might have a built in phone from the pictures I've seen, so maybe it will call the police if it's getting stolen?
