just left bank driveup window.. pulled out into traffic and then across the street to turn to go the othere way.. after stopping it felt like the automatic Transmission was in neutral... no nothing... did not feel like a slip...... put car in reverse and then back into drive and it drove off fine.. i then gunned it and dove off like 35-40 mph and continued on a few miles.. caught red light and stopped and then the same thing... no nothing when trying to tke off from the light.. put it into reverse and back into drive and it drove fine... had to do this about three times for three different red lights (stops) no problem driving it when driving.. will take off and hold the speed and continue...its just after a stop..... could it be the electronic controls for the transmission (like trottle position sensor, computer, or some other internal electronic control inside the transmission) the cable for the transmission not just engaging the thing into gear all the way and then has to be repositioned??? any ideas or help will be welccomed

Check you fluid level. My car has occasionally had the problem when I come to a stop. It feels like it's in neutral. I just wait a second or two, and the fluid comes back up to pressure & everything is fine. Most typical when the tranny is cold first thing in the morning, or if I stop hard. One of the best solutions is the addition of an external tranny cooler. Not only does the addition of a stacked plate cooler potentially double the service life of the tranny, but the added fluid volume practically eliminates the problem.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Anywhere we can learn more about what kind of (cheap?) tranny oil coolers are available and how they can be installed by do-it-yourself types like me whose ATX is already living on borrowed time?

Price is right on the J.C. Whitney trans oil cooler ($39.99) but it says '83-95 Fords need special "adapter fittings" sold separately, but there is no link to them and a search didn't turn any up.
Hello J.C. Whitney?
I'll check the print catalog.
Wonder if AutoZone.com stocks something similar?

AutoZone has tranny oil coolers for as cheap as $22.99 with free shipping on all orders, but they throw out a bunch of adapters and fittings as well but don't really tell you which ones you need to fit to a 95 Contour.
Then they ask for "6 Passes" or "4 passes" or "2/2 Passes Dual Circuit" (whatever that means) but the same parts seems to come up.
These shopping websites still have a lONG way to go....

Stay with a stacked plate design cooler, any brand, and you will be ok. Autozone and Advance Auto both sells the adapter kits for a few bucks, so... that's no big deal.
I also have a How-To in the CD4E FAQ's in the tranny forums, too.

thanks guys.. it was my fault by not wearing my glasses when checking the fluid level... with the glassed on i could see what looked like the fluid was low... could not tell without the glasses... i should know better.. getting over 40 the arms seem to be too short to see anyting that small.. added fluid and no more problems....
