I was thinking about buying the Pioneer deh-p740mp when all of a sudden the new line of recievers comes out from pioneer. Now my decision is more complicated I was checking out the deh-p8400mp or deh-p840mp (premier) and wondering how the silver color would look in my car. I have a silver tour but the interior is biege and without a hint of silver. Anyway, I was wondering what you guys thought of this new reciever? worth the extra cost?...or not. It play's WMA files but I dont really collect those (yet). In case anyone was wondering, I am so set on pioneer cause I have a older pioneer deck now with a pioneer 12 disc changer and I wanted to keep the use of the changer without going fm with it which means buying a compatable deck hence pioneer. Thanks.

Hey first off how old is your 12 disc changer, I sell some car audio and find that the older changers are not compatiable with the newer decks so you might want to check that out first!!! Well the difference between the 2 are that the 7400 has only front and rear preouts, but the rear is non fading so you can use it as a subout easily. The 8400 just has a funkier display and is all motorized and stuff. Plus it has a front, rear and sub preout. So your only choice is to find out what you really need your deck to do. The difference in price here in Canada for the 2 decks are going to be 400, with that extra dough you could buy your self a decent sub and amp too. just my opion

The 740mp (premier HU) has got 3 sets of pre-amp outputs. The 7400mp has only got 2 sets like TrUjAp said. The 8400mp/840mp adds WMA capabilities and a really trick motorized face. But, is it worth an extra $150 for merely a style item???

My .02:
Silver looks fine, depending on the colours of the display on the HU. My JVC is silver coloured, with blue, red, and green on the display. I find that the red and blue work very well because the deck is right under our HVAC controls which are red and blue... go figure!
Actually, I can't remember all the colours of our HVAC controls, cuz my car is in the shop. Nonetheless, I think I'm right... correct me if I'm wrong.
I know you don't want to change from pioneer cuz of your changer, but the JVC has a motorized/removeable face, triple preouts, two AUX ins, a nice EQ, and doesn't cost too much. It also has id3/filename display/cd text/yada yada yada. The jvc does not do WMA decoding. I've never missed it.
Hope it helps a bit.

Thanks for the inputs. I'm gonna wait abit even though its hard to do and figure out if my changer is compatable with a newer deck and to test the reciever out at the local stereo shop. Another perk ,although its totally cosmetic, is that the deh-p8400mp/840mp now have the ability to download new screensavers/pics and even .avi files according to the sites I have gone to. So your not stuck watching the same dolphin swiming around. More customized I guess but once again its not really a functional thing just bells and whistles.
hmouta, Someone might correct me but I believe a WMA file is a windows media file which is even smaller than the mp3 audio format and is supposed to have higher quality. I haven't seen much of it though.

wma is windows media audio. Its like MP3 on steroids with an alarm. it is a secure format designed by microsoft to stop internet music piracy. AKA, the wma file can't be made or played on any comp except for the comp that the original Cd has been recorded from. although WMA sounds just as good as mp3 at half the bit rate (64kb=cd quality in wma format, 128kb/s=cd quality in MP3 format), you can't distribute the files as easily, and you can only make WMA from Cd's you own (its hard to find non copyrighted files to download). but becuase of WMA's much smaller file size (about half at the same quality as MP3), you can fit more music on a standard Cd using WMA than you can MP3.

oh yeah! the main drag about WMA is that you must have the original CD's to get songs off of. You can't download WMA files and expect them to play on your comp if you don't own the CD.
