Hey Guys....hit a patch of black ice in a bad spot and put my car into the ditch, then into a ledge. I don't think it would be worth fixing, but figured I'd post on here for ideas.
As for what is damaged...The airbags deployed...the drivers side fender is trashed, windshield is done, drivers door and window, rear door works but has damage to it on the bottom, and the rear fender and the ground effects on the bottom of course. The hood might be salvagable, but has some damage on the side of it. The roof has some dents that look like they can be fixed. The "pillar" I guess you'd call it, that runs up the side of the windshielf between it and the door is also pushed in....no idea how they go about fixing that. Also there is some to the back drivers side rim, and one of the braces near it (it's twisted). I have not been able to confirm any other damage underneath.
Me being the genius that I am, only had Liability insurance on the car, and no collision.
The car doesn't "look" all that bad, but I'm thinking that with all of that damage, it would not be worth it to fix it. It's a 1998 SVT w/98,000 miles on it. It was in near mint shape and ran perfect....Do people by these as parts cars? Or would I be better off parting it out on an individual basis?
This sucks, but I'm just happy that no one was hurt out of the deal....however, at the end of the day I'm still bummed that I lost my car....nobody's fault but my own though.
Thanks for letting me vent....not really any other reason for my post.

Sorry to hear about your wreck. Glad you're ok though. As far as the car goes, it sounds like it's totalled. Your best bet would be to either sell it whole as is or part it out. From the sounds of it though, even as a whole car it's probably only worth $1000 +/-. You'd get more by parting it out but that takes a while to recoup the money and effort involved. Trust me on this as I totalled my 2000 SVT and parted it out.

damn, that sucks man. at least no one go hurt. i have ot agree with rick, it most likely totalled. but if you have the time and the space to store the car, i would say part it out.
good luck, keep us informed.
in case you do decide to part it...hows the front bumper and grill?

Dude, that really sucks.
Sorry to hear about the loss.
Let us know what you decide to do. Have you thought about a replacement vehicle yet?

You're not the only one without collision insurance ... I'm constantly scared that something like this is going to happen. I very nearly got hit by a woman while making a left turn (I had dedicated left along with two other cars, she had a red light and blatantly ran it right in front of me) late last night. I am living on campus next term and saving my expenses for that, but as soon as I am commuting again I think I'm putting collision on my car.
Sorry to hear. Good luck with the insurance ... it almost sounds cheaper to just buy another SVT and sell this one as is ...

matty, unless thatlady had no insurance, collision would have done nothing for you in that case, it would have been her fault. as far as i know. collision basically covers damages that are your fault.

You are definitely right ...
but considering she was brazen enough to run a red light while three cars were in the middle of a left turn (two left turn lanes: one car in the left lane, one in the middle-left and I was right behind that car ... she squeaked by nearly hitting the rear bumper of the car in front of me and forcing me to slam on my brakes in the middle of the turn) ... I am willing to assume she was drunk, which increases likelihood of hit-and-run, not even factoring in no insurance possibilities
Any circumstance can turn against you, as I've read several times by people's rants in the CI forum ... which is what makes me nervous about not having full insurance.
rereading my post, I never included that ... whoops
Sorry ... getting off topic now.

Well, actually it is great to have collision insurance. If your car is damaged in an accident for any reason, the company will pay for your damages (If your at fault, less the deductible). If your not at fault the insurance company goes after the at fault party's insurance so you don't have to(or if they have none, the party themselves).
