The O/D lights blinks about every few days then goes out. While blinking, shifts are very harsh, but it does shift. It happened yesterday and when I started out today, the light was constantly on and there was no shift to 4th gear. After I drove it a while, the light went out and the tranny did shift into 4th and the shifts were smooth. The CEL light is also on.
I noticed in the FAQ, if the CEL is on, then a trouble code should be stored. I am going to Autozone to see if it can be retrieved.
What has been your experience in this matter? I will search the forum history later.

I'd check your fluid level first.
It has been my experience the some atx codes are stored while others are not.
Have you done a atx flush/fluid change?

Yes, the fluid has been changed an the level is OK now. Its only an intermittent problem, but seems to be getting more frequent.

DanB, first off, make sure you search BEFORE you post. A quick search in this category would have yeilded many posts. The O/D light blinking means the tranny detected a problem, and increased line pressure, which makes hard shifts. And to further help: Originally posted by unisys12:

Try changing the fluid again, just to see if the extra cleaning will help. While at Autozone picking up the fluid, get them to pull any codes on the cars `puter. This can be very hit and miss though. Just because the O/D light was blinking, does not mean that the ECM set a hard code to memory. So don't be surprised if they can't see anything. If that is the case, your only option will be to take the car to shop and have them hook it up to a live scanner and allow them to test drive the car. This, live scanner, will allow them to watch every sensor on the car, while driving, and will also take a snap shot of all sensor activity in the event of a error or mishap. This will help you narrow down where the problem is.

Bro the cost to get these trannies fixed is very expensive around $2000. Trade it in on a day that it is working correctly. Don't worry about the next day there is a 3 day buyers regret law, not sure if that applys to used cars.

Matt R - i did search, but the problem has yielded many different causes. From TSS to crank sensor to total rebuild.
Will change the TSS tomorrow. Its worth a shot!

Ok cool. I agree, there is tons of possibilities....ranging from "your tranny is fried" to "change the fluid and it won't do it again ever". Good luck w/ the TSS  .

If you have not installed a shift correction kit it would be prudent to do so. Transgo shift kit about 30 dollars. Tranny does not have to be removed to install it.
