Heres the deal. I have a 2000 Black/Tan CSVT with only an AEM intake so far. When I get down to about 1/4 of a tank of gas, if I step on the accelerator it will start to chug in second and sometimes in third. Im thinking that it might be the fuel filter or maybe spark plugs. The car just rolled over to 71,xxx and just had the shift tower assembly replaced. Just wondering if anyone has experienced the same problem or if not, any suggestions as to what it might be. Thanks,
-Steve, MN

Welcome to CEG!

Merry Christmas!

The intake filter on the bottom of the fuel pump is getting plugged up. Keep the tank full until you can get to it. It is accessable with difficulty through a hole under the back seat. Do a search, plenty to read on this.

Wow! I have a 2000 Contour SVT w/ 71xxx miles on it too! And guess what? Mine started doing the same thing. It happened when I let it go down to 1/4 tank a few weeks ago but then it stopped, I let it go down yesterday and it is really bad now. My question is-can this make the check engine light go on??

Well, I have never had my CEL come on. So im not sure. I kind of had a feeling that it might be something to do with the fuel filter. So I will definately check it out.

Also, this is a little off the topic, but my buddy has a '98 CSVT and when he sticks the fuel nozel into his gas tank, it always clicks and shuts off. He cant keep the fuel pumping until it is actually full!?! So just to fill up his car it takes about 15 min....Any ideas on this situation? Thanks again

I believe there was a Ford bulletin on this gas tank filling problem. It seems to me I had the same problem with my first contour.

That happens to me every once and a while in my 98 svt, i just pull the gas nozzle out and put it back in and it works fine. I suppose it is just a certain angle that you put it in and the nozzle will click off right away.
