Well I screwed something up in my car I have a 1995 ford contour gl 2.0 auto. The tranny engages good for like 30 secs after starting then it slips and will not move the car eventually. The VSS was out and I never replaced that it shifted messed up and crap. The trans slip started with 2nd to 3rd gear shifts for a week or two and now its like this. The fluid is as black as 4000 mile old oil litterally and it smells so burnt it aint even funny. I dont know if the fluid can do something like this or not. When it slipps real bad when the car wont move I can shut the car off then restart the car after like 30 secs and it will drive enough to get up to speed again thats how I got home. It started to happen when I changed the tranny fluid in the car with some super tech cheap crap at wal-mart 4 bucks for like 4-5 quarts. But to get all of the fluid out of the tc I ran the car for like 2 mins untill it stoped draining.

I dunno i think it was uhh mercon III like uhh is there different weights? If so I would say 10w-40 cause thats all I buy for oil and would have grabbed the 10w-40 if there were different ones I think it said for ford and gm vehicles or something.

I was changing the tranny fluid like 3 times in the 18k i had it the vss was shot and kept fring the tranny fluid. (black and burnt) The car has a distint whine like a belt but its not the serp. belt I dont think mabey timing belt? It whines in neutral also. Its got 159k miles. Junk yard time after I drain the oil and floor it till the engine blows.... damn fords .

Can you indefinitely verify whether you used Merc/Dex-III rather than regular Dex/Merc (which IIRC, is V)?

Secondly, these cars use 5w-30. Also, the duratec usually has a natural whine to it.

Its not a Duratec. He mentions in the first post that its a 2.0L, aka Zetec
