Need advice:

Went to dealer, told me I needed a new passenger stab link. Mechanic told me that was what was making the clunking noise in front end when I went over bumps (clunk was on the driver side strangely enough). I checked the link, it was a little loose...so I gave the go-ahead on the repair. Drove away, clunking still there.
I want to fix this...but I don't want the next garage to replace everything and not fix the problem. Any ideas on what the clunk might be? The front end has a little more bounce than it should, so I know the struts are wearing but there is no signs of leaking etc. What other things should I be considering? Strut mounts? How can I tell a strut mount is bad without removing a strut? I am fairly familiar with suspension systems, but I don't have the time and room to get under the car myself...not to mention the heated garage.
If anyone else has had the same problem and had it fixed, let me know.
Thank a lot!

I had a front clunk after replacing the end links, and it was the outer tie rod end. I replaced, and took the car in for alignment. Fine ever since.

Yeah, it kind of pissed me off. I am going to get under the car when it warms up a little and check a few other things. I have an air wrench so I might tighten a few things and see if that works.

Not really related, but informational, especially if you change struts.

When I had my struts changed, I got new spring guards installed as part of a recall. This caused a clunking like a bad bushing on right hand turns, but it eventually went away.

How bad a bump does it take to make it clunk, is it on turns too ?

Yeah, the spring guards were put on ahwile ago. The clunk is kind of like a clunk/rattle...it happens on all kinds of bumps, big and small, and less so at higher speeds (perhaps just the road noise drowning it out) I am thinking is a a ball joint or outer tie rod. Haven't gotten around to checking it yet. -35 out and no interest in freezing to death

I have a clunking sound too. Driver-side rear. It sits lower than the front and bounces more. Someone told me it was a strut, but I have only 45k on the car.

Mine has been clunking for a while now. I've changed the struts, end links, mounts struts bearings, driver's ball joints, sway bar bushings, left axle assy.
Still clunks. I am thinking it is the lower control arms, but they seemed OK when I put in the struts - still have a lot of spring to them.
I am getting tired of puttng money into this beast!
