Ive been doing ALOT of research since I plan to be purchasing a new HU in the very near future. I think I have narrowed my choices down to these two. Each has their perks for ex. the Alpine b/c its one of the top of the line and Alpine in general is a very good HU....and the Panasonic puts out 60W RMS so I wouldnt need to wire an amp (very nice feature I think).
So what do you guys think is the better HU just on the HU's themselves not based on price. Give some explanation to your opinion too if you dont mind.
Thanks

It depends entirely on what features you think you need. As well, you have to live with it. Pick the HU that best suits your needs and is most intuitive to you.

I agree w/ you Honkey, but I am looking for others opinions that may have either played w/ both of them, heard both of them powering speakers or actually own them and can vouch for them.
Opinions wanted and welcome.

FINE....... you called me out As you may have read in previous posts I am officially an alpine fan now as of a couple months ago working in the industry, and have completely redone my system with alpine amps and 9835 headunit. So you may take my remarks as opininonated but I'll list of my reasoning why the 9833 is better than the panasonic.
#1 appearance....
9833...multicolor illumination, the backlighting on the buttons can be changed between I believe 481 colors to perfectly match your dash.
9800U.. Do you know that in the daytime it is chrome?? And that stupid dayglow feature..at night the whole fuggin thing glows blue and lights up your car?? Most either find this really cool or really an eyesore, depending on your highschool "bling" preferance.
#2 Sound.....
9833... there are so many features and custom settings related to sound on the 9833 that I promise you it will take you a month before you fully understand how to work this thing. I dont have that much time to explain them since I have to go to work, but Just have somebody at an alpine dealer give you a demo. You can tweak the 9833 and 9835 so well and so clearly.
9800U... Yes it has a high power amplifier in it, but in my experience it wasn't all that clear. And it got HOT!!!! I remember hearing a couple complaints about CD warping.
#3 Expandability
ok bla bla bla... the panasonic has all the usual features of a top of the line radio.. 3 high volt RCA preouts, Input RCA's etc.
But Alpine has I-personalize and the V-link. In my system upgrade I also included a M501 mono amp and a F540 4-channel
With the V-link I can adjust every little thing on my digital amplifier from my headunit. forget the little "gain control knob" I can control everything down to EQ frequency and slope. It even will tell me the amps, voltage and Temperature of the amplifier.
ok, nuff said for now...gotta go to work.

If I wanted a head unit that was to be the command center of a high-end install with multiple outboard amps, electronic equalization, component speakers, and high performance sub(s), I'd go with the Alpine. If I wanted a head unit to power some nice drop-ins (like the Crystal CSx570's) and maybe even a sub (or subs) off of the rear channels, I'd choose the Panasonic. It would be my choice for a simple install of a "drop-in" system. Looks are really in the eye of the beholder. You'll have to make that decision. Both decks have tons of expansion capabilities. IMO, extremely tweakable decks with multiple and complex adjustments can be irritating. I've got a Clarion Pro Audio HX-D10 in my truck with an external DSP. It has an incredible amount of tweaks/adjustments/settings available. I ended up using the simple mode because it was just too much. You really need to quit agonizing over these decisions and just friggin' pick something already!!!

haha I hear u cthomp. But Im very...how should i say..very very perticular plus the fact I'm German and if anyone knows about Germans, we're VERY hardheaded. So it takes me ALOT of convinving on a certain thing for me to go on it. In this case the HU. Funny thing is after all the convincing is said and done I usually go w/ what i liked a little bit better in the 1st place regardless of what the majority consensus is. See where the hardheaded comes in Guess I just like to hear other opinions to see what others like and have had success w/. Plus this Alpine aint cheap...retailing at $450 this isnt exactly a "buy on a whim" purchase. I've shopped around though and can get it fr $329. Anyway thanks for your opinions and more opinions are still welcome

lol dont know who that is but what i was saying was that I like to hear opinions from others and then weigh them w/ my own to come to a final decision.
P.S. Im def. am not going to buy Jensen or other similar junk products . I only invest in very good products , you only get what you pay for.

This is nowhere near constant in the world of car audio.

He was this Highschool kid from michigan who would waste everyone's time by asking questions and advice (often 2-3 page threads) But he NEVER listened to anyones advice or suggestions. And would do a complete 180 impulse buy with cheap crap from ebay.
