Hi everyone. Nice site you got here. I recently( bought my first contour. A '99 LX zetec, 5 spd. with 69,000 miles. this past month my wife was rearended by a mitsu galant. my contour is totaled. fire fighters estimate he was doing about 90 mph. she was doing the speed limit, 35 mph. Anyway I was at a junk yard today and found a 98 svt. no bumpers, hood, center console or back seat. they told me I could get the whole car for $1000. Is it worth it or not? also, how hard would it be to find the bumpers and center console?

Well firstly, I hope your wife is alright. Secondly, I'm skeptical to whether or not the other guy was doing 90mph, on an impact at that speed, the car would be in pieces; just formulating this from the picture. In regards to the SVT, how is it mechanically, also how many miles. Bumpers- you can probably get for around 800-1000 off the classifieds. The central console is a tuffy, but I actually believe there is someone selling the center console in the Classifieds section, so you might want to check that out. Again, before we can tell you if it's a good deal, we have to know more i.e mileage and mechanical condition of the vehicle.

Is your wife okay, any wiplash? Anyways $1000 isnt bad for a Contour that needs a few things. I would check Ebay for some parts or www.car-part.com has slavged vehicles to. Secondly how long has the Contour been sitting at the junkyard, I wouldnt even think of trying to start it and drive it home with the oil if has been there more than 6 months, infact it is most likely a good idea to flush ALL the fluids out of it. Run some injector cleaner, might need new plugs and wires as well. Good luck.

If she was going 35 MPH in the same direction, the hit would have been "only" 55 MPH ... I believe it personally.

I sure hope your wife wasn't injured! Second, welcome to the CEG! Bucks County, you're not that far from me. As far as the SVT, I agree with the other two people. The CEG classified section is a good place to start as well as Ebay and the link that HITMANinMI gave you.

My wife is ok just upset. her seat broke on impact and she landed on my daughters lap but she is ok too. My son was hit in the back of the head but only suffered a knot. Thanks all. the motor had been pulled apart also(forgot that last time). It is missing the heads and intake. so the motor would have to get rebuilt. mileage I'll have to get the next time.

More proof of how safe these cars are. There are many stories of people in Tours getting hit badly and walking away.
Hope all is OK. If getting a salvage car, overhaul the motor and trans in it.

That's a simple inelastic collision w/o weight transfer. I believe Mirages are heavier than tours as well. I have no idea the extent of damage retension/collision velocity is on these cars. This is actually the first tour I've seen with actual numbers of impact speeds. Seems that the tour took it like a champ!
Well, that's not really important, I'm glad to hear everyone in your family is alright. Keep us posted on the SVT!

But not the first time I've heard the seat breaking (cloth seat). That's odd.
