Half the time I start out from stop lights, my shifter (I let it sit in 1st at lights/stop signs) will pop out of gear and go into neutral upon hitting the gas and releasing the clutch. Trying to put it back in normally requires a lot of griding and pushing. Same thing happens, just less often in 3rd and 5th, except normally they will just grind shifting into gear. Are my synchro's going?

It sure sounds like it to me, but I am not very well mechanically inclined. You may want to take it into a tranny shop and see what they diagnose. Or wait for some of the others here to reply.

Sounds to me that your shift cables are bad, or even the clip on the tranny has come loose that indicates shifter position. These are all of your "upgears"(1,3,5), so it sounds like something isn't allowing it to engage fully into gear. I had a problem like this after I slammed 2nd gear and popped the cable out of the little clip that holds it's position. This just might be the culprit for you.

This makes sense. The last owner (my friend) said after the new motor was installed by ford, that the whole shifter leaned backwords more. It engages 2 and 4 much deeper than it engaged 1 3 or 5. I will look into it, thanks.

Just talked to him, he said that the neutral position "moved" once when he powershifted 2nd. Looks like thats what it is haha.
