I have a '98 SVT w/ about 83k on it. Lately when i start out in the morning its really cold out now b/c i live in south west Wisconsin. But this morning when i start out and went from 1st to 2nd it grinded but in no other gears. Then i started out again and it did it again.. But never did it again. Until i left school and my first 1 2 shift it did it but, the second time it didn't, but then the third time it did and that was it.. Is this just the weather or what??

ah the common MTX-75 syncro problem. Your 2nd gear syncro is going out... Unless you are getting lazy with the clutch...

Hi I bought a 96 SE on ebay and had a bad 3rd gear syncro. Its a big job, book call for 12 hours just for r&r tranny.I had about 20 hrs total time. You have to disconect a whole lot of stuff and drop the front frame while supporting the engine.Unless you have a place and the experince to do it id take it some where.I got an estimate of $1200 to fix it.That was mostly labor, only about $80 for the part.

If you have not already done so, change the trans fluid. ATF+3 works exceptionally well. You may find enough of an improvement that you can put off the trans repairs for a long time if ever.

Harder shifting when cold is somewhat of a product characteristic and may never go away, even with a normal overhaul.
