The New 2.0L Duratecs in essience are the same as the older Zetecs... The major difference between the two though is the fact that the newer Duratecs are Aluminum blocks, they run cooler and are lighter, as compared to Our Zetecs which are Iron... The new Duratec I4 is an awesome engine. But if you pop the hood of an 04 Focus, and Pop the hood on an 05 Focus, the only difference you will see between the two is the badge on the valve cover... They inside is almost exactly the same.

In europe there are 4 or 5 different zetecs.
zetec-E 1. 92-95: silvertop came in 1.6 1.8 and 2.0 (from 93) 2. 95-98: silver top also came in 1.6 1.8 and 2.0 however there were a few changes made to the engine to stop stick valves. 3. 98-end of zetec life span: blacktop same sizes again, but the bottom end was redesigned. The pistons are not as tall and the con rods are longer, along with various outher changes. 4. not sure abt the date on these, but the focus st170 (focus svt) engine was built on a zetec bottom end, but with modified head that has variable valve timing.
zetec-s 5. used in smaller cars and used capacities 1.25 1.4 and 1.6. Its a totally different engine altogether and i think the 1.7 engine was a zetec-s too. I dont have any details abt this engine, so there may be a few revisions. I believe this engine has been rebadged as a duratec.
The new duratec-HE engines that are used in the mondeo are totally different from the zetec engines. Im not sure if they have transfered these engines to other cars or if the rest are all just rebadged zetecs. But this engine has a different bore and stroke to the zetec and the head is totaly different. The intake is on the front of the enge, where as it was on the back of the zetec

wasn't the block of the new 4 banger duratech developed by Mazda too? I'm pretty sure that the latest version of these engines had a lot of Mazda development.
