Ooh rah, Trapps. =)
Yup, another Hollywood Marine here, went to MCRD SD, as well. Congrats on your choice, as there's nothing like receiving your Eagle, Globe, and Anchor at the end of the Crucible. It makes grown men cry, and it will be a moment stuck in your head for life. You will learn the true meaning of what it is to be a Devil Dog, through constant training and learning, you will be shaped into one of us, one of our brothers.
I had the benefits of my brother-in-law having already been in for 7 yrs when I joined, so I'm going to tell you the same things he told me, which got my skinny butt thru bootcamp.
- Do what you're told, and do it as fast as possible.
Never, ever slow down. Everything is fast paced, whether its getting dressed, shaving, taking a leak, or getting to the chow hall.
- Its all a mind game, and its not personal.
The DI's will say things that may hurt your feelings, you may end up with a crappy nickname. (One guy in my Platoon was known as Pube thru most of bootcamp because during inspection one night he was found to have a pubic hair on his face, and the name was set...) You will be told you are worthless, and that you can do nothing but screw up, simply suck it up and continue doing what you're told.
And most importantly...
- NEVER make a Sir sandwich!

That, "Sir Yes Sir" crap isn't the Marines. They'll eat you alive over that one. One Sir, and say it LOUD. (You WILL lose your voice at least a few times in boot, and you will soon realize why all DI's sound that way.)

I've got more, but food just arrived.
