Ok...calm down...I didn't MEAN to offend anyone...but I guess I should have known better than to post a message like that on an 'enthusiast' site..which was just plain rude. I am sorry. Anyway, my husband and I had our 'baby' (yes it was our baby) from '96 and we just recently got rid of it. Not really by choice but we just couldn't afford to keep getting it fixed. Three transmissions and several electrical problems later..we decided to trash it. Apparently..(we were informed) on several occasions that we had a real lemon..and that the contour should never have been built with a V6 engine. I'll try to get my husband on here to list the problems we had with ours..in order to find out if any of you '96 V6 drivers had/have similar problems. I realize most cars have problems but common...can they really have as many as our car had?? Sorry...have a nice day..

you really did have a lemon. I have never heard of that happening before! I hope I never get a lemon.

Steve

EDIT: There are plenty of cars with V-6's on this site and most of them for the most part run pretty dam well. Espescially the SVT ... Except for the occasional problem this is probably the best car I might ever have... 90,000 miles and one accident and it still runs good as new!

Yes the transaxles aren't the best on these cars, but getting three of them makes me think
you got gipped on the repairs.(Don't know where you got the repairs done at.)

Also, if you'd have stopped by ealier, you would've seen most belive in a tranny cooler. This helps to prevent
tranny problems by keeping the fluid cool. $100 addon part. Also was the correct Tranny fluid used with Ford's friction modifier?

OFF-TOPIC: Chris, anything about filter housing? (not the best place to post but maybe a justification of the entire thread )

Sucks to hear that your car gave you so many problems. Sounds like your car had them all. The V6 engine in the Tour is quite advanced, and sold many variants in Europe in the 'Mondeo' which is the euro tour. I can understand your fustration, its a shame you didnt discover the site while you still had the car, perhaps some peeps on here could have offered some advice.

Btw: Our Zetecs are more reliable on the contours

There is one other person on these boards that I know has had three transmission rebuilds ... parkedcar. Then again, his '95 has 275K miles ...

Sad to hear you got rid of it, but understandable considering the issues (although the amount of new transmissions sounds slightly excessive ... no way to tell now anyway). Definitely glad you came back on the board and apologized

Feel free to stick around even without a Contour, the Common Interest boards are entertaining and full of trolls as it is ('troll'=non Contique owner that posts on these boards). Have some fun browsing the Pics and Vids forum, they can help you remember the good times you had with your car

Many people become discouraged by their 'trusted' mechanics, friends, etc., stating that these cars are junk. One stop at this site can completely disprove all that and allow one to see the beauty of this car's design.
