So, I have been noticing lately, some noises coming from my 2000 SVTC. I have 68k miles. These seem to mostly occur on cold start in the morning.

1) Rear suspension creaking and clunking. I hope to fix this with the installation of the new poly-u bushings i ordered.

2) Very loud injector clicking. Normal?

3) Fake Roots supercharger whine at 4k RPMS and above. My only mod is a DMD, and maybe that is just a coincidence. I have heard people mention having this noise before, and the theory was it could be fixed by replacing the idler pulley and serp belt. Is this accurate?

Thanks.

1.) I had the same/similar on my old 99 CSVT....it could be the link or the link bushings....go to

http://www.parts.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getLocator&siteid=213787&chapter=DP2FM0&appSectionid=24&groupid=20135&subgroupid=60181&componentid=0&make=10&model=Contour&year=1999&graphicID=FMP100&callout=6&catalogid=1

you may have to copy and paste the above link

and look at #14 or #15.

on mine the rubber grommet/bushing was all tore up....based on my initial thoughts...I didn't think that was the problem but after I replaced them both on the rear.....it was fixed.

I could be completely wrong though......I'm kind of an idiot when it comes to this stuff.

As for the others.....not sure w/o searching...I'm sure someone else will suggest a solution for you.

Later

Every car with a duratec I have driven makes some kind of whine. Mine used to be really bad, but it turned out to be a bad ground for the amp in my trunk.

It still makes some whining noise though. I blame it on a kkm intake, 4 cams, 24 valves, a manual transmission, and 133000 miles.

hmm... whine or whistle? Since I did some intake work (cleaned head intakes, optimised secondary butterflies, additional 2 extrudehone passes on UIM, gasket matched LIM/UIM, TB optimise) my intake now whisles around that RPM range. I don't recall it whistling prior to those mods. I still have the factory bullet airfilter housing, so an aftermarket airfilter may also whistle... ?

Creaking from the rear.... the winter brought on new creaks from my rear swaybar poly bushings (and poly endlinks?). Poly seems to creak when cold... not sure if lithium grease with resolve that.... poly swaybar bushings on my previous cars also creaked when it was cold. A while ago.. someone posted that the rear creaks often come from the trailing arm (?) where the ebrake cable is clamped to it... and that * shaped insulator rubs...

Ticking... at idle my pcv valve or injectors tick.

It's a whine. I also have the whistle, which seems to creep up at half throttle.

I thought the poly bushings weren't supposed to creak? I thought it was only the stock rubber units that went bad like that?

I haven't heard your whine noise, but there is a normal, natural whine noise from the Duratec, sometimes called "DOHC Song". It is thought to come from the timing chains.
