How many miles do you think a Ford Contour 2.0 zetecs automatic tranny would last. I was wondering cause my car has 158k miles and I was wondering if there is a possibility that the tranny was stock? It was owned by 3 high school students so it probally would not have been babied cause 2 of them were guys and they tend to be crazy.

I'll be very surptise if that is your original tranny. I oftently saw tranny problem about 120000KM, so that is twice the KMs i saw.

My contour had 131 K when my daughter wrecked it about a month ago, but the transmission had been giving trouble for the last couple of years. It worked, but barely. I'm just glad I hadn't invested $2k in the tranny before she wrecked it.

I have '96 Zetec 2.0 Auto and I am running on 159,220 miles and I am the fifth to use it in high school after my four older brothers already went through it. So I guess these cars work better if you push them hard, but I do admit it does have it's trouble every now and then.

On the bottom of the valve body cover, is a sticker that contains all the information about the tranny. You can take that info to your local dealer and they can give you the run down. But not if it was rebuilt or not.
If it is a remain and it came from a company, such as Phenoix Hard Parts, there will be something on the tranny somewhere stating this. If it was rebuilt in a shop, it would be harder to tell.

my torque converter went out at 95,000 miles, only because the car was a rental before. If we had bought it brand new, God only knows how long it would have lasted.

I'm almost afraid to post this but my Zetec auto tranny (below) seems to be the high mileage winner. I know for a fact it is the original because the car belonged to my sister's family including being driven by 2 teenagers (see bio) and I have all the repair records too. The tranny oil was changed a few times so maybe that saved it. It still shifts okay. (Fingers crossed!)
OTOH a friend of mine bought a pretty gold 98 Contour and a year later at 100,000 miles the ATX suddenly went. It had been shifting hard. She replaced the tranny ($2500) and then totalled the car a couple months later.

There was a previous thread about the Contour auto tranny and the prime importance of changing the fluid in it.
I'm a believer.....

Im at about 138K on my Zetec, already went through my first (and only) CD4E. The auto lasted just a little over 137K but I know it was neglected/abused.
