I went out to read the fault codes in my '95 Contour yesterday and found something that stopped me:
First: for the KOEO (Key on engine off) test to retreive stored codes should I warm up the engine first?
2nd: I'm not sure which terminal to use for the jumper from the signal return unit under the hood. That's the triangle shaped block with 6 terminals or pins.
The website shows to use the upper RIGHT pin which is #2 for the jumper. But on my signal return unit (it has the same triangle shape with 6 terminals or pins) the #2 terminal is marked as the upper LEFT pin. So do I go by the number #2 on mine (upper LEFT pin) or follow the books and website and use the upper RIGHT pin.
You'd think they'd all be the same, but then the window on my 89 Tempo cranks one way to roll down and the 95 Contour turns the opposite way.

Well, the instructions do say to use the upper RIGHT pin for the jumper and if it worked on your 95 it should work on mine even if the numbers are different.
Like they say: When all else fails, follow the instructions.
Thanks.

the car I did this on was is a 95 Mystique with the zetec and a 5spd so that is nearly the same as your car, I also did the same on my fathers car and it work by following the direction
I never looked at the connector for numbers, I just matched it to the figure and plugged in and I got the codes so I never questioned it

For sure the codes is what counts!
I'll try to do it today or tomorrow.
