In my F1 news, I just had them mounted and balanced. No more bald tires.

I can see how this post is classified in "whatever" category, but I think people fail to see the issue that is plainly obvious to a professional software developer. What made me post the link is the fact that the undisputed F1 leader went to Indian company w/ their contract. They did not go to two Stanford dropouts w/ a small startup in the valley, they did not go to a big software company in the US. They went to India. Obviously, everybody will look away and pretend they don't understand the significance of the trend. Typical...

I am a professional software developer. Obviously, I understand the trend. However, why in your mind is Ferrari seemingly obligated to go to a US software firm? If you were a contracting software agency, what would you rather pay your developers? 60,000? or 12,000? Profit margins are a little thicker when you go to India.

i didn't say they are obligated.
in their position they chose the best, not cheapest.
that is what worries me.

I don't necessarily agree that they are the best labor. Do you have data that supports this? I think it comes down to money.

They -- who? I work for an equal opportunity employer: we have Indians, Chineese, and Russians. Pretty much evenly.
In addition to my other responsibilities I used to superwise a project outsourced to India. An Indian colleague of mine used to superwise a project outsourced to Ukraine. We both had rather mixed feelings about outsourcing in general. But this is not the point.
Companies outsource jobs which don't give them the edge. Goldman Sachs will never outsource traders, my company will not outsource developers of the product core. Prime outsourcing targets are routine jobs like backoffice, secondary GUI work, things which can be documented from A to B and shipped out. Cost is not the primary issue here. Companies are trying to get something done w/o dispersing the talent.
Somehow I am sure that for success of their F1 team Ferrari will cut throats if they can get away with it. They may be happy to save couple of Lires here and there, but if they screw up racing season because of 24 hour development turnaround I don't think anyone responsible for this contract will stay to see another season. So to summarise, I think it indicates that at least in this case they [think that they] found the talent in India. We'll see how it unfolds.
