So I'm in the turnaround on Southfield Rd, just S of the freeway turning around to get onto I-94 (stupid detour, still ) and saw a blue Mondeo ST220 (I believe as the rims were pretty big) and it turned into the City of Allen Park parking lot and ended up next door where theres a couple Ford buildings. I like the car because it looks like a smaller version of the Mercury Montego and wondered why they just don't bring the Euro-spec version over here instead of the new, upcoming Fuzion. BTW, does anyone have any pics of that car because I saw the Mercury Milan and it looks great IMO

Pete, thanks for those pics, but I've seen those in one of the car mags I just thought there were some actual "spy photos" someone may have come across on the net. Whatever the case, it appears that Ford is heading in the right direction and I'm lookin' forward to seeing whats next from them.



Question to our "insiders" out there. Is there plans for a new engine to replace the 3.0L Duratec in 2 ton cars (i.e. the Freestyle/500/Montego) I remember seeing that 3.5L engine and never heard much more about it, so whats the deal there? My mother-in-law has a new Freestyle and I really like it, seriously, and I find the motor to be adequate, which is fine, but wouldn't something like GM's inline 6 w/ 275+ hp be great in that car Just imagine if Ford had something right now like that in those cars, they couldn't build enough of them IMO! That being said, I still like the Montego, no matter what some of you guys say about it being an "old mans" car, been there, done that

Kinda funny that that new Volve V8 is built by Yamaha and is said to be a version of the SHO V8, atleast thats what I read about it. I still think the large, inline 6 would be awesome, especially with a small blower

To answer your question Roger, yes Duratec 35's are going into the 500/Montego/Freestyle.........but it probably won't be until 2006 (possibly even late 2006). Ford has been pretty tight lipped about it, and I'm hoping during the autoshow circuit coming up we will get some sort of info other than what we have now. I'm assuming horsepower will be right around the 250-260 range so people can continue to burn Regular unleaded in them.

The Fusion/Milan, I have no idea whatsoever about. I would think because they are Mazda 6 based they will use the Duratec 30 with VVT, and similar transmissions.

As far as the Yamaha V-8 (which is a reworked SHO engine), Volvo went with Yamaha because Ford didn't have any V-8 engines that fit the requirements set forth by Volvo ( the engine had to sit transversely like the other engines and fit in the small engine bay), not to mention emissions BS.

Thanks for the info Mike and maybe I should just wait for the improved motor if I do infact decide to go with the Montego
