An example of why I don't stress about having a control arm bolt coming undone because the head is facing downward. My Impala has a two piece driveline, and the carrier bearing has 2 bolts that hold it to the frame and they face downward. They don't have even a nut on the other side, they just thread into an 1/8" thick piece of metal and I have never had any issue with them falling out.

Swazo, never noticed before that you had 64 SS Impala. Sweet ride . One of my all-time favorite Chevys. What colour is it? Is it one of the original colours? My favorite is the burgandy(?), but it looks great in many of the original colours. I know the 350 would make for a very nice combo. I drove a 69 SS 350cid/350hp Nova my uncle bought new and built up for Drag Racing and have always had respect for the power that motor can make. Even if it is 50lbs heavier than a 351W . Now if only it had the 409. Regards, Alan

Yeah '64's can be sweet when done right. It's the original bright red with an OEM white interior. I'm almost done with the complete restoration, and have completed the mechanical aspect of the project with a built 350 (The 409 would've made it worth much more, but it had a dying 327) and all the edelbrock goodies in polished form and a Summit racing TH350 w/ 3600 stall TQ converter, manual valve body and shift kit. I also replaced every wiring harness bumper to bumper with new OEM replica versions. Front and rear suspension is totally rebuilt. All under carriage has been sandblasted or hit with a grinder w/wire wheel, and then coated with POR-15.
I'm redoing all the body work, re-polishing and clear coating all of the trim, and spraying a basecoat/clear coat in the same bright red. It'll be done in January
As much as I love her, I will be selling her when finished.

But your thinking has nothing to back it up. It's a facking bolt. Who cares which way it goes as long as it's in and tightened. Has anyone ever heard of one "letting go" if installed to tq'd spec? No.
Hey Todd never say Never.....being a maintnence mechanic I've seen [censored] fail that should never ever fail. Like pole said there is a right way and a wrong way. [censored] happens and it usally happens to those that cut corners. And how do you know one has never let go broke failed etc??????? Have you a crystal ball?

Was looking under the car yesterday. It's only 2 bolts that do in upside down. All the rest go in as came from the factory. Big friggin deal.

When I replace my control arm on the driver's side, I had to place two bolts upside down. I used new bolts AND I used new locking nuts......

Hey, I had a though the other day...(scary)
What's the factory service manual say, if anything?
Function before fashion.

it says support the engine, drop the SF for driver side; do nothing on pass. side. does not even mention frigging torque... at least the one I got from you know who does not.
hours quoted by stealership vary depending on the side too. if that is any indication of anything.
