I have a 1 farad now and it won't hold current to save my life. Any body have good luck with a piticular brand?

Pretty much all caps some from the same place, they just have different stickers on them. Get one from a reputable audio shop, and you shouldn't have any problems, as long as it's initially charged right.

Yeah I charged it correctly, I've just heard some have differnt electrolites in side that make for better current transfer. I might try one with a meter on top, at least monitor it easier.

anyform of disply on a cap negatively impacts its usefulness

of course its usefulness is questionable but thats a different topic all together

How is that possible? the LEDs & meter are powered buy a seperate power supple that can even be hardwired to the battery its self correct? I always thought knowing how current is affecting the the cap would be a possitive thing.

Not all are created equal, Look for low ESR ratings and 24V max caps (avoid the ones marked 16/20V max)

Caps are useful for the initial voltage spikes, but over the long run adding a second battery is the better way to go.
