The best thing to do when you get a FMU when it's nice and shiny in the box is to take it outside and throw it in the bin.
Bigger injectors and custom chip is the best way.

No No No...
Sell it to some unsuspecting fob on Ebay... There are lots of hack tuners out there!

When I installed my brothers Vortech on his mustang that is exactly where the FMU went. He was like "What the hell are you doing"! I said thats why you got the 42#er's and the twEECer. Then he said "Oh" But yeah if you can sell it go for it. -tropictour

well injectors are on the way for me but i do want to use a rising rate fpr. i think its just a tad bit safer. when i upgraded my turbos on my 300zx i had a shop install a fmu on it too when i upped the boost so it kept it on the rich side.
any chance you could point me on the right direction or a place i can research the information on a product like this so i can understand it better. in my opinion i think it would be cool to be able to dial in a electronic fmu with an egt for the best af ratio. just my thought maybe im wrong
i thought about the apexi for a while but i think its a little overboard and not worth the money. i have also been sitting on the idea of a adc generic burn for my car as well along with the fuel management unit to dial in a good tune. i do not want to have to redo any tuning i get for this motor since i am building a tubo kit on a stock engine and the next phase is a built short block swap.
anyways i just need the info....
thanks

I would just get some bigger injectors(30#-42#) and get a custom chip tuned on the DYNO. A wideband would be an extra step towads safety but it may be overkill Im not sure. Hopefully Demon and Keyser will chime back in. -tropictour

Dude,
Take the advice and ditch the idea of a rising rate FPR. That technology is only there because some ecu's cannot be chipped or hacked that easily. If you can't change injectors or program the ecu then an FMU is one option. Its just the least desirable. With todays OBD II and even OBD I systems you don't have to worry about that. Once the computer has the right injector size input into it then it will automaticaly add the right fuel as long as it can sense the amount of air going in. The ford system with the MAF sensor is Far Superior to a MAP sensor anyway. We are pretty experienced on this board now with setting up a correct fuel management system. If you are still entertaining other options then there is something you are not telling us, or you don't trust us, or you are hard headed.
Understand we are here to help if you put yourself in receive-mode AND if you give us some pertinent information like the CAR/Engine/PCM setup you are actually talking about.

dallas, listen to these guys. An FMU is a hack tool, for those too lazy, or not smart enough to figure out how to re-tune the factory ECU properly. The stock fuel lines are designed to run at ~40psi, an FMU can raise the pressure well over 100psi, IMHO, this is not an intelligent move.

This is a truth. We tested my 3.0L (may she rest in peace) fuel pressure (when I was initially running the FMU) and came up with a number in the high 90's to 100. I don't know about you, but the thought of running 10# of boost, moving 100+MPH and having a fuel line burst and spray all over a hot motor/battery does not sound attractive to me. Can you say boom? FMU's are great if you are running an old Camaro or Mustang, but this is 2004, we have tuners and interchangable injectors. Save yourself the money and go with a Walbro 255LPH.
