Well, my old Sony amp looks to either be on the way out or it's turning into a tube amp... It takes about 15 minutes to come on each morning - works fine when it gets going, but I'd suspect this is a bad sign.
It's a 50x4 amp that I use to drive 4 boston 5x7's in the doors and I'd like to get something with comparable power output, but I'm really looking at getting a 5ch amp and adding a small sub for fill-in. Specifically I was looking at the Alpine MRV-F357 (50x4 + 150) amp and the boston c110 10" sub.
I'd like to know what some contour folks think about these choices. I'm most interested in clean sound and not really into bass that'll shake my body panels off  Building my own box wouldn't be a problem if you think I should go that route - if so, what kind of driver?
Thanks for any help you can offer!

The amp is a good choice. How much do you want to spend on the sub?

I'm looking to spend $200-300 on the sub. I can get the boston one that I mentioned for $250, so somewhere in that range.

Thanks!

Another amp to consider (only $199) 50x4 + 150x1

USA-6300

Channels 5/6 are 1ohm stable. Get a 4ohm DVC sub (like a Blueprint 02 Series) and feed it 300w.

You might want to at least take a look at their specs before bashing them - low distortion, high power output while rated at low voltage input, inexpensive prices. IMO, they're one of the best "bargain" brand of amps out there. I've owned three of 'em and have had nothing but excellent performance and reliability. They are rather ugly, tho.

BTW, amps don't have voice coils.

Darn Alpine brand-whore! :p wink

I get it now. I think the monkey's got some kind of vested interest in Alpine. :p He's freaky in love with that stuff.

Yes. I was wondering why his equipment was shorting out all the time. I think you may have figured it out.
