who shot the wounded insurgent.
Please sign this petition, so no negtive action is taken against this young marine.

PETITON LINK

This is just part of the story.

The Marine who shot the insurgent has been withdrawn from the battlefield pending the results of an investigation, the U.S. military said.

These terrorists do not follow the rules of war. These terrorists kill innocent women by disemboweling them, cut of the heads of innocent truck drivers, detonate car bombs in crowds full of innocent people, and fly planes into buildings filled with innocent Americans.

It is my opinion that NOTHING should happen to this American Marine. He should be returned to his unit or be given an honorable discharge. We don't need our young men and women taking an extra second to decide if its right to shoot an enemy terrorist when that could mean that one of our soldiers could lose their life. The lives of our soldiers should be the single most important factor in this war against terrorism. The rights of terrorists can come second.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Sounds like wounded insurgents have been booby-trapping themselves.

Our troops get near them and they release a grenade, roll off of a contact mine or something else along that line.

Kind of hard to unpin a grenade when you've got a bullet in your head...

Reminds me of what the Russian SWAT squads did when the Chechen loonies raided that theater in Moscow a while back. They didn't take chances in moving any of the terrorists while they were still alive; a bullet was put in each head.

It's ugly and brutal, but very effective in minimizing risk.

Of course, "better safe than sorry" is a concept that doesn't dawn on too many people outside of a combat situation...

I'd kill every single one of them sumbitches.

Cold? Against the rules of war?

Fugg it, I wouldn't care. Better me killing him now than for the bastard to come back months down the line and kill me.

I grasped that much. I'm trying to figure out what is the issue with shooting someone that has already been shot? Kill or be killed.

I agree with the above in theory, but in this specific case the soldier shot a wounded insurgent point blank when all signs pointed to the insurgent not being a threat.

I'm aware that many insurgents have booby-trapped themselves or their wounded comrades, etc., and this theoretically could have been one of those instances. But from reading all the reports, it doesn't seem likely.

I sympathize with the stresses of life in a battle zone, but seeing as we aren't exactly winning the hearts & minds of Iraqis, our soldiers need to be thinking about how this type of stuff looks to the people we're trying to "liberate."

How would you react if you were shot in the face the previous day?

If some of your fellow Marines were killed the previous day by a 'dead' insurgent?

If I was in combat, in this fellow Marines shoes I would have done the exact same thing. Any of you who say you wouldn't...well...then you'd be soon on the casualy list.

If I was over there, honestly, I could give a funk what those people think. I'd be keeping my ass safe and the asses of the people around me safe. If some moronic insurgent is going to be stupid and move while he has a rifle pointed at him...well, he's going to meet his 'virgins'.

Against the rules of war?

This always strikes me as a bit funny, even though I was trained to live and die by these very rules.

We have broken "the rules" consistantly throughout history. Remember back when wars were faught like gentlemen, front line against front line, ready, aim, fire? How'd we win? By hiding in the bushes and ambushing the bastards. Goes back to the old saying, "All's fair in love and war."
