Does anyone make a shifter for this car that will firm up the movement of the shifter, or are there documented modifications to the stock one that will help? It feels like a wet noodle. I have an aftermarket shifter in my Mustang that feels like you're directly connected to the trans. If I can get a feel like that in the Contour, I'd be much happier.

Nobody makes an aftermarket shifter for the 95-97 rod shift trans. If you had the cable shifter from the 98-00 there is quite a few aftermarket shifters and throw shrow kits available. About the only thing you can do is shorten your shifter and re-thread it.
