when you crimp something what EXACTLY are you doing? I have a nak cd-40z that just sitting on my table. I need to know what I'm to do with the HU wiring harness and the Radio Shack wiring harness to make them connect. Do I just slide off the last 1/4 inch of insulation from the Radio Shack's harness wires to expose the bare wire, then shove it into the metal sleeve that's surrounded by a plastic cover from the HU harness, then crush or crimp the metal so it bites the exposed wire from the Radio Shack wires.
If not where did I go wrong. Please help me.

Buy some butt connectors. Those are what you crimp. You strip a section of each wire that you want to connect and then put each end in the butt connector then crush each side.

there seem to already be butt connectors at the ends of the HU wires. Not that I even know what butt connectors look like. What I described earlier aren't butt connectors then? Maybe my description sucked. They are metal, they are of difference sizes, but all could said to resemble sleeves or some other cylindrical thing where you could put the wires in and crush two sides to clamp them together. Is that all I need to do. Could I use pliers or would a crimping tool be necessary. Sorry for the ??????'s, but I don't want to screw anything up.

Examples of butt connectors

Stick the stripped wire into each end of the connector and crimp the connector.

okay thanks guys. I think what I have are basically a different kind of butt connector already on the ends of the HU harness wires. Just so long as I can use pliers or buy/borrow a crimper tool this should be easier than I thought.

wish i had a digital camera sos I could just show you what I'm talking about next time.

Maybe something like any of these?

You may have something like the disconnect or bullet that have a male and female part. For those types, you crimp one wire to a male part and crimp the other wire to the female. Then you can just plug one into the other and do not have to crimp once both peiece are together. This is nice if you frequently connect and disconnet the wires.

YES, holy ****!! It's all coming together now. So for the HU wires that have bullet connectors I need to attach disconnects onto the corresponding wires of the wiring harness and just plug them together. Vice-versa for the ones that have disconnects instead of bullet connectors. This is really gonna be easy after I go out and buy some bullet connectors and disconnects. I'll just have to crimp and then plug one into the other. Thank you for your patience with my questions and all of your help! Five stars for you. laugh

Darren, I bought the bullet connectors from radio shack and attempted to do what you are going to do before I said f*** it. I just cut the bullet's off the HU's harness and spliced the wires, it was so much easier, smile

GO to any harware store, buy a basic set of multi purpose wire strippers, most have a crimping tooth; it doesn't meet all the way, it leaves a gap; on them, some with different sizes even. <$8.00 to do it right. You could also solder, but watch your heat, remember to heat the wire not the solder & use solder with self contained flux, to much heat and the connections become brittle - not goood in a car......

If the HU already has these:

Then you need some of these:

Pick them up at any local Radio Shack or hadware/home impreovement store. A kit like this:

can be bought for very cheap and is a good place to start, but make sure it either includes enough of the female bullets you need or buy an extra pack.
