P.S. Yay !!! I'm not a newbie anymore !

You still act like one ... the "updated cupholder" solves all these problems. The price is worth it if you use the cupholders often, especially the right side.
No true way to fix it unless you build walls on the right side to hold the drink, which is essentially a ghetto version of the updated cupholder part. The updated cupholder is a drop-in fix, no hard work to install.

Is there a specific reason you don't want the updated cupholder?

I'm guessing no one has taken the time to think up an improvement for the pre-98s PoS cupholder.... maybe I should...

Well I see the factory piece as a perfect upgrade, it looks stock, brings the cups up closer to your hands, and holds just about everything.

BTW, these are with the flash a foot from it. They don't stand out in real life, nearly as much as the pics might suggest.

Plato, thanx alot for the pics...so these are the factory replacement that you can get from any FORD dealership right?

what is the price and part #?

It looks like this part just slides into place (overtop the current cupholders) however, my cupholders do not have the rubber inserts that they came w/ from the factory. My cupholders are just the hard plastic console (what it would be like w/out the inserts). Will the new part still slide in and fit correctly w/out the rubber inserts?

Thanks in advance.

chill, I couldn't tell ya the part #, or factory price. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find those by looking around/searchin, but when I bought it I knew OF the upgraded cupholder's, and when I went to the junkyard for a window motor, the car had one in it. I think they sell for 12-15 new, but I got mine for 2 bux. You actually have to remove the rubber inserts to install it, so it works out that you don't have your inserts. It just sits in there, but to get it to sit a little tighter, I used some velcro strips I had lying around, and threw that between the new piece/bottom of the old cupholders.

I bought the cougar/SE cupholder from a CEG'er stationed in Germany.

Open

And closed (still looking for correct trim piece. I sanded the old dual trim down to fit the new one)

Twice yes twice my soda cans have tipped over and spilled every where during a turn!! Well i was cleaning up and decided to take out the rubber inserts to wipe under them. When i yanked out the left one a big chunk of plastic came with it... so now the cup holder is deeper. I tried to do the same on the right side but it didnt occur? Anyway ever since the left side has been deeper none of my sodas have spilled! Anyone else stumble upon this?

Before swapping to a pre98 console, i figured that out as well, i have two deeper cup holders for the drivers side that I pulled from junk yard cars. it makes a big difference. I never let passengers have drinks in my care affraid they might spill lol.
