What a cool game!  It was definitely worth the wait. I actually stayed up for the release at midnight PST.  I had downloaded it via steam rather than buy it in the store, so I just had to wait for the files to be unlocked. I don't really want to give anything away about it, but the experiences in the first couple hours are exciting. So who else is playing it? I know there must be a bunch of others on this board who were waiting for the release too. What do you guys think? Unfortunately, I have to be at a meeting at 10:30 today, so I have to go to bed now.

I know the graphics are sweeet. Seen counter strike on the same engine, pretty cool stuff. I'll probably get it at some point.

ARAARRRRRGG! I want to get home and play! My ATI 9800 Pro should be here today too. I couldn't handle staying up till 3am my time to play it tho  Damn work!

I've been waiting for it since the initial release of Half-Life. My life consits of work, friends, computers, and counter-strike to keep up my addiction to Half-Life. Can't wait to own it. I can't wait to play Counter-Strike: Source.

I've been waiting through this lovely installation process for over an hour. Since I can't get through to their servers as they are so full, I can't verify the key and can't play the game.

ATI screwed me over on a rebate for a free copy of this. My graphics card included a mail-in rebate for HL2. After I hadn't heard anything about it for 3 months I emailed them.
Without going into a lot of details we disagreed on what I had sent them versus what they had on file. I finally asked them to remove me from their customer list and I would remove ATI from any future purchase consideration when it is time for another upgrade.
I can get a copy of the game from a co-worker (I was entitled to an original copy anyway) but I will no longer support any ATI products.

the claimed i never included the original UPC.
i told them that was rather odd, since it cut it off the box and stapled it to the reciept.
the claimed they had the reciept and that it had a staple in it but no UPC.

You do realize that HL2 has MUCH better warez protection in it, right? You can't simply install your friends copy and start playing it.
And FYI, while I have had issues with ATI in the past, if you're going to eliminate them from future purchases you'll also limit yourself to being behind the curve on graphics, since ATI is leaps and bounds ahead of NV now, and in their development process.
Back to the topic, tho, I got it and played around. Its definately a LOT better of an atmosphere than Doom3, and is able to keep your heart racing. The physics are fun, but that wore off quickly. I can see myself toying with it, but the eye candy is old to me, already, and I'm not a big CS player. Unless DoD blows me away, this will end up on the shelf with the other 1000 games I own.

No they don't. ATI's real weekness is in the quality of thier drivers. The fastest card on paper doens't do you a damn bit of good if the drivers are not stable in games. Which is why I dumped the mid range ATI card I bought a month ago in favor of a GeForce 6800 GT. ATI can suck it.
As for the game, it looks great, gives you a real sense of urgency when you play, but I hate stacking boxes and barrels. damn barrels always end up on their sides. I was playing Doom3 the other night and their dark rooms and screaming monsters are not as frightening as City 17 and the masked Protectors of Half Life 2.
Way to go Valve!
