first question, have you removed the belt or has the blet broken?

if it hasn't then you want to se the engine to TDC on #1, then you want to index the crank and both cams. with this done you can remove the old timing belt. the cams will move but only by a tooth or two. when the new belt goes on then all you have to do is line the marks up and the timing will be the same as before

you didn't say if you have a pre or post 98 but how to's have been post for both in the zetec maintence forum

The belt has not broken but the tensioner seized and the belt skipped a tooth and the engine stalled....
I found 2 marks "-" on the camshaft sprockets
I moved the camshafts so the marks on the sprockets are like this "- -" they are aligned....
I will verify on the crankshaft that the 1 cylinder is at TDC.
Is that the procedure....
The engine in question is a 96......
Thanx a bunch

Use a flat file to hold the cams in position - the slots are off center so it will only go in one way. Try a couple of different files until you fing one that fits well. Turn the crank to #1 TDC and install the belt. #1 is supposed to be located with a peg installed in the block. But there are also marks on the crank pulley that line up on a mark on the oil pan.

You can find the procedure on the Autozone webpage under Repair Guides. Here's a link . Only the 1995-1997 2.0L Zetec uses the separate spring to set the tensioner on the timing belt tensioner.
