I understand that the SVT is more powerful, but come on. Why are they worth that much more money, it isn't due to reliability compared to other V6 tours. And the power increase although substantial isn't the difference between a regular v6 and supercharged v6.

All I can say is good luck and happy hunting!

haha - brings back memories. In December 2002, just three weeks after I bought my (now gone) Probe GT, I found a "98 Contour S.V.T." in the local classifieds for $3400. Keep in mind this was 2002 where they were still fetching well over 8K. Bad timing for buying a vehicle on my part The ad was in the paper for two days and then pulled; someone got a good deal!

Similar analogy: BMW ///M3 versus BMW 330ci.

I mean, come on, they're practically the same car. (note sarcasm ) Would you pay more for the M3?

I purchased my 98.5 SVT in November of 2001 for $7,000. Wonder how I got it so cheap?

LET ME TELL YOU!!

The owner did the classic "cheap car place routine"

The linkage had broken (thats why he was selling it) so he tied baling wire to both ends to make it functional (lasted 15,000 miles before leaving me stranded on I-35)

The Fuse box was half baked (didnt notice till the A/C cut out and my HVAC stopped functioning)

RR rim bent

4 Toyo tires all of which had a misbalance

Tint was peeling and the car smelled like B.O.

Engine had 45K on it after replaced for spun bearing.

Eventually I replaced the condensor as well (but that was age)

So if you can fix retarted things like the above and still come out ahead (similar SVT's w/70K on it were going for $9500) kudos to you.
