hypothetically....
96 or under contour..... 1200 ish small block chevy .... 2000 ish turbo 350 tranny .... 500 ish custom driveshaft .... 250 ish ford 9 inch rear end ... 800 ish mig welder to make it work 250 ish
these prices are a bit high and would give you a decent setup. althoug im forgetting prices for a custom leaf spring and traction bar setup for the rwd setup. i think this is quite feasable for less than what i just made up from the top of my head. but as far as fitting a sm block 350 i know it would fit as ive measured my friend sm block in his s10. 350 focus are getting popular to and there is one that was done for less than 5 grand. the focus swap is a bit more appealing for just the thought of a focus fliping out and killing a cobra for no reason. just a thought. i think a 302 would be even cheaper.

I'd hit it! That sounds fine and dandy til it becomes time to actually start fabricating EVERYTHING. To most people, it SOUNDS feasable... but really, it just isn't worth the cost, trouble, headaches, and unknown territory you face when doing this. You are talking about moving and redoing pretty much EVERYTHING under the car, let alone, cutting the axle down to fit, changing out the front suspension (cause there's no way that even a 302 will fit with the stock setup)gas tank would need to be moved, and god knows about the tranny, you'd have to cut out an opening in the floor under the cosnole to fit that sucker up and in the car so it wasn't draggin on the ground. You'd have to adapt some kinda console to cover the large behemith tranny that is now sticking through the floor past the CD player (exagerating a bit), and you know we's gotta have our CD's??!! And besides, even if you did have this set up and built.... ya know how much that beast will weigh? Reinforcement, reinforcement, reinforcement. Usually people don't repsond liek this.. it is usually someone saying... "Why, just put a 3L with a quaife and some bolt on's.... that'd be just as good." But I feel ya broth er, nothing would be more cool to roll up next to a mustang, camaro, GTO, or what have you, and not only sound like your cars pissed off like it didn't get no nookie last night, it also beats the piss out of them all aswell. Makes me droll thinking about it. But, logic comes first in the real world. Oh, and I'm not out to be the burster of boubles, if you got the skills, by all means, make this a reality and make every CEG'er envy you.

It would probably be considerably cheaper, and probably easier to find a wrecked Mustang. Split the pinch welds and take the body off. Do the same to the Contour. Mod the Mustang's floorpan as needed and weld it under the Contour. That would get the fuel tank, rear suspension, trans tunnel, etc out of the way. Adapt the Mustang's front subframe to fit and then work the bugs out of the front suspension. The one probably I see with a straight axle under the rear of our cars is clearance. You would have to lift the floor a lot to allow the axle to have its movement. If you want a V8, supposedly the Jag 4.0 will fit. Granted you would still be FWD but from measurements, it will fit.
