So i am thinking about buying a another contour. the ones i am looking at are 96 or 97's they roughly have around 80,000 to 100,000 miles, and their V6's. This isn't going to be a every day driver just for summer time, Its going to be project car. I was wonder with something of this high miles, you think i should break down rebuild the engine up. So its in good running order. I have rebuilt engine FYI.

Or can they go higher in miles.

haha i can race anybody here!!! UM the winning part is another story..

It can go higher than that but it all depends on how the car was treated...

you will see that many have much higher miles on there duratecs, my father has about 105k on his 95

if you take care of it the engine should last a long time, but if you are planning power upgrades I would jsut go ahead and rebuild it

No, at exactly 100k the engine explodes into a million pieces.

didn't hear what happen did you. I had 104,000 on my 1998 v4, the engine went out on it, So now i have a enige with 68,000 miles on it. Actually i just found a really really nice 1999 Se sport contour. Body looks mint, So i might just buy it before winter and store it for winter, then start buying parts.

That's only because you had the rare V4 engine option...

Longevity is mainly about maintenance.

My 96 GL has 108600 miles on it. It runs and drives fairly well (aside from the fact that I have to replace my PCV and IAC valves, which I will eventually get around to). If you are getting a tour for a project car, who cares about miles... Just drop in a 3L... Plenty of fun there

Yeah... my ol 96 Zetec had 114K when I got it, had bad timing belt, both front wheel bearings, alignment, ball joints, suspension bushings, knock, etc., etc.

Drove the car from IA to TX and back like that, fixed some of that stuff by 125K (belt, bearings, ball joints, alignment) and it took another trip to TX and back to IA, then to MT (stayed there) with 160K on the clock (traded in when I found the SVT). Had a pretty good knock the whole time I owned it (hard drivin, those trips plus delivering pizza...), I know it would make it 200K+.

From how I see it, that Zetec engine was pretty durable. I just hope the duratec is that durable. At least I know the SVT was well maintained, unlike my old rental car/unmaintained Zetec...
