Hi over there!
Im from the UK with a Mondeo ST24 (2.5l Duratec V6) with a really irritating pinking problem at around 2500-3000rpm. Heres a list of what I've tried:
Vacuum pipes are ok - no leaks. Manifold gaskets fine (upper & lower) Brand new spark plugs with correct gap - HT leads tested OK. Tried 98RON superunleaded. I've decoked the engine. All valve and sensor wiring OK.
I havent touched the IMRC yet. Anyone think this will have an effect?
Damn pinking.
Cheers

It's called pinging but what the car is really doing is missing. Change your plug wires and I'll bet you'll be fine. They are more important than the new plugs in these cars. I've been through 3 sets.

IIRC you use an engine cleaner, like your injector cleaner. Coke = carbon.

There's a lot of good technical info on this site that can help you sift through the hype you'll find shopping for new leads ... and as you can see in my sig, I bought a set.

Used the cheap decoke method. Ecotek's power boost formula- sprayed into the engine inlet.

Your pinging may be from carbon buildup on the tops of the pistons and other areas. The decarbon method you used may not have been adequate. There is a cleaner from motorcraft that is sucked in through the pcv hose (or any high vacuum hose) while running the engine at 2000 rpm after it is warm. Shut the engine off and let it sit for 10 minutes. Drive it hard and then repeat. Change the engine oil and filter when you're done and it'll be as clean as you can get it without taking it apart. If it still doesn't satisfy you, then you can retard the timing. Depending on the year, there is an actane adjust plug in the harness by the edis module, or it is a setting that can be changed in the computer.
