I went into a local stereo shop and told the owned i wanted a very powerful amp that will be able to push whatever i want. I have 4 gage already routed and told him i just wanted to be able to hook it up that night. So we talk for awhile and he recommends the mtx thunder8100d. I was interested and asked him if it would hook up to what i have and he was like yea we will help you set it up too. So i fork out the 550 bucks for it and they go pick it up. Take out the amp to get ready to install it......1/0 gauge only terminals and 150 amp fuse needed, can't believe it theres no internal fuses at all. So now i have the monster of an amp pushing around 1200 watts rms into 2 ohms and i can not put it in my car. So now i gotta go down to the dei 600d mono amp which is not a bad amp, just not the 1200 watts rms that i had with the mtx. Those mtx totals were on the spec sheet given with the amp. It was actually 1163 rms tested on my particular amp. I just got annoyed cause i walked in with that money and asked for an amp i could hook up right there. Oh well just need people to know their products.

I wouldn't have bought the MTX anyways, if the test results were lower than the published specs. You actually got lucky, and in the meantime picked up a great amp!(The DEI) laugh

They don't sell amps that don't meet or exceed the published specs. From what I've seen, they usually exceed them by a substantial margin too. That particular amp was 1163w versus the 1000w it is rated at (and at 12.5V too).

My PRO502 was tested at double its rated output with 1/10th its rated distortion. Not too shabby.

wink

i previously had an mtx thunder 500d and was very happy with its power output and it produced great sound. Although with one day of the dei i am pretty happy either way. Just would have liked to have an amp in my car that i know could probably push all my friends systems combined.

MTX is a quality amplifier and Made in the USA (cant say that for the DEI) As far as its output, I only beleive what I see with my own eyes and Fluke Multimeter.

I must agree that salespeople need to get a clue. My Previous job involved tech support/ Diag. problems with products. Half the shops did not have a voltmeter or know how to hook up a DVC woofer in series. If they had a problem it was always the brand new out of the box amps fault  then they mention the single 8ga wire going to a 1000 watt 1 ohm mono loaded amp thats only designed for a 4 ohm load and wonder why it shuts down mad (sorry too much stupidity at shops for me to take any longer)

Don't do it, keep the MTX. Incredible amp for the money, used to compete with MTX for a few years in another car I had years ago, and I have nothing bad to say about the product and the help and support those guys give you at MTX if you have an questions on hook up or concerns even if it's not there product when you call their 1-800 number.

My advise keep the MTX get an adaptor from stinger or any other brand of connector manufacturer that will connect into the 1 awg. terminal and convert it to 4 awg. which can handle the 150 amps anyway. All the big connector manufacturers make this such as stinger, Phoenix Gold, Streetwires etc..

As for DEI not bad product for the price but DEI is the largest alarm manufacturer in north america (viper), stick to there alarms for now, not to mention they did buy Clifford Electronics there largest bankrupt competitor in north america. Amps they are still fairly new to this category yes decent will do the job but MTX different class of amp, and I agree it's true salesmen overall in these car audio shops need to know more.

I would assume that you aren't interested in SQ all that much as the 8100D (MTX) is terrible concerning THD...... :p

That's why they're class D and only used for subwoofer amplification (efficiency).

Class D is used for Bass for efficiency, but also they cant produce frequencies above 200Hz for the fact that power supply "switching" frequency wont allow it. That and most have built in Low Pass filters. A Class D that plays full range is a Class T. Where they came up with this "classifiaction" for T though is anyones guess.
