I have a set of ST200 rims and am looking at putting a set of Conti Extreme Contact tires on them for my CSVT. Either 225 45 17's or 215 45 17's. Both sizes should work fine for me, and have worked for others here. I wanted the 225's at first, but I can't seem to find anyone who has them in stock, not even tirerack currently. I can get the 215's, and they are $16 cheaper per tire. My question is, do you think there is a noticeable cornering difference from that extra 10mm in the 225's, or should I just go with the 215's?
Thanks!

Also remember wheel width makes a difference. Like a 215 shoved on to a 6" wide wheel isn't stretched the same as on a 7" wheel, so has a bit less contact patch.

Okay, thanks for the replies. So is there any way for me to know what the contact patch would be for both the 215's and 225's on a 7" wide wheel? I guess it would probably be about 10mm wider, or is that not how it works?

That's not how it works. "225" is a notional section width--not a tread width. Tread width depends on tire brand, profile height, etc.
Also, you're looking at a 215/45 and a 225/45. The 225/45 will be taller, and will also sacrifice a bit in sidewall stability (vs the 215). Ultimate grip might be slightly better, with a compromise to steering response and final drive ratio.
Function before fashion.

Alright, that makes sense. A smaller diameter tire will be a little stiffer, and even though it might be slightly less wide, comparison of overall traction could be a toss up. Eh, its an all-season tire anyway... I guess I'll get what ever tire is available/cheaper. Thanks!

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for them and how long ago was it? I priced them at walmart in the summer and then again a couple days ago, and the price went up $20 per tire!! For the 225 45 17 they initially wanted about $130, now its at $150 plus mounting and balancing. 215's should be cheaper anyway...

215/45/17 Hankook Ventus HRII's onn my ST200's. Check that "Rate Your Tires" post, my opinons are there but the 215 size, altho I've never tried any other size, I notice a definite stiff sidewall and traction over the 205/60/15 Stock, while the grip is similiar
