ok, my car (01 zx2) started to be hesitant at take off and is extremely loud, wrx with and exhaust kind of loud. it is throwing a cel. i take it to autozone and 2 pop up. 1 #3 misfire 2 low input on maf. so i fix plug but the maf must still be messed up. i have a cta with relocator. does it sound like my car needs a new maf. if so, could i get the bigger like mustang 70 mm and the car still perform well? thanks steve

You may try cleaning your maf before assuming it is bad. What code did the scanner pull? Also, a 70mm MAF would be tremendous overkill on a zetec.

A 70mm MAF wont work unless you get it remapped. Iv tried it. Im gettin it remapped in January, so ill install it then. And a 70mm MAF isnt overkill if you plan on tuning your intake properly

A 70mm MAF IS overkill. The stock MAF is not the bottle neck of the intake system, so replacing it (unless you go FI) is unnecessary. The stock TB diameter (2.75" outside) will outflow the engine upto about 200BHP. And the stock MAF diameter (3" outside) is good to slightly more. Remember things in the intake are sized to keep air movement and volume at a specific level.

Well you actually need it for the extra air, you should have used a programmed chip to run larger injectros, that the proper way.

I did....the car wouldn't run with just the injectors/MAF.

As i said, its all abt tuning the intake. It may allow up to 200 bhp, but if you tune ur intake, and it need a 3" intake, then you need to match the MAF to 3" internally

MAF size is more or less based on HP, actually more based on air flow and and air velocity requirements. If you don't have the HP needed (therefore more airflow) to require a larger MAF, then you are loosing performance (most cases), or at best staying the same (very few cases).
