I personally would get rid of the sony xplode and get a pioneer headunit. You get the most options for your hard earned $. Not the greatest in sound like alpine but there are so many freakin' fine tuning abilities that you have with them it makes up for it. But, I would also run better speaker wire to the speakers. If the car is like mine all you need to do is take off the cd player trim part and try pulling it out. Most likly there are "tabs" on the metal sleave around the cd player that hold it in. So, if you can get those down. Aftermarket speaker wire make a nice difference in sound. Any other ?

I don't think it has anything to do w/ the speaker wire, and also, I don't have money for a new head unit, and I dunno, doesn't the trim piece come off?

there might be a chance that those speakers failed

in my fathers 95 the rear door speakers failed for some odd reason, upon looking one of the wires came loose internal to the speaker

to get a sony xplod radio out you need to remove the faceplate, then the plastic trim ring around it will come out, then you will either see two tabs which are the clips, you sqeeze and pull the radio out or there will be nothing and you need two special tools that come with the radio to get it out

the first is for older ones and the later is for newer one, ie I have a 2000 model and a 2004 model

Trouble shoot the speakers first, I just put Polk DB570's all around in mine because both left side speakers were dead. Well the L/F had a short in it and the l/r was just dead. The way I did it was take the door panel off of one with a working speaker and the one with the dead speaker unplugged and plugged in the working speaker into the dead speaker spot and had sound so I knew it was the speakers.

I'm having an intermittent problem with the LF speaker. I won't come on until I turn up the volume. Would this be a wiring problem or my head unit?

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Sounds like an xPlode HU and factory speakers. Invest $375 and buy a decent system - Alpine HU and Infinity speakers (5x8 in all 4 doors). Bypass the factory amp totally and just use HU and speakers. You can all do it yourself in about 3-4 hours. Sounds incredible with my iPod.

Note: if the speakers still do not work, you may need to trace the speaker wire...

My speaker wires go into an actual harness which is a screw type reciever on the body panel then the door has the attaching piece. So I stayed with the factory wire's they were not giving me the problem. The L/F speaker on mine was an intermittent thing also sometimes it would work others not. I think it is a speaker from on your car TourDeForce. The door panels come off pretty easily so I would swap a speaker and see if you get the same problem. If it is only one speaker doing it and not all 4 trouble shoot that speaker with another one.

Now my question for Gliderjoe or anyone is how many watts/rms does the stock amp put out? Since I am still using the factory HU.

My 99 svt lost sound to all speakers one day sitting at a stop sign. The car has a factory amp in it and a converter must be purchased to install a aftermarket head unit. I wasnt sure if it was the converter or the amp itself or what. The converter cost like 75 dollars so I really wasnt wanting to buy a new one to test. I just said screw it and ran new speaker wires.
