I've been considering getting an MP3 cd deck for my car since there seems to be a few more choices these days. My Pioneer DEH4000 is still working flawless so I'm reluctant to get rid of it. Has anyone heard what are the best MP3 decks on the market today? Thanks.

I take it you have one? Anything in the mp3 features area that is unsatisfactory (like access times, shuffle)?

I'll be able to give a review of the Pioneer MP3 HU later this week. It left the Toledo UPS hub 20 hours ago. If UPS delivered on Saturdays, I'd have it in by now.

Heya, My friend got an Mp3 player a few months ago and he really enjoys it. Its the Rockford Fosgate RFX9000. He had no problems with it what so ever. I went over and previewed the desk as well, and they are nice. Shuffle, access times, everything goes along smoothly. Even displays the mp3 name tag for you (if the mp3 has a tag associated with it).

Pioneer DEH-P740MP, buy it, you'll love it (remote is a bit big for the credit card style) Lots of cool graphics, 3 sets of preouts, HP/LP filters with sub out control too. One thing I dont like is the buttons for the radio stations are a but small.

I haven't as yet seen the Pioneer MP3 deck, but I do own the JVC KD-SH99...
It is a great deck. My only 2 gripes are that the antenna stays up when playing the CD/MP3 files. I circumvented this by installing a switch for the power antenna.
Second, you can only switch from folder to folder (mp3 files) from the remote. Hard to do while driving.
Sound quality is excellent, it has enough clean power even at higher volume settings. The display shows cd text and mp3 id3 tag displays, or the first few characters of the file name for non-id3 mp3 files.
If you have a burner in you computer, and the time to convert your favourite albums to mp3, it makes life more convenient. I just got a portable mp3/cd unit, and I can use the discs in either.
Good luck on your search.

I have over 1100 albums in MP3 format burned on CD-Rs, about 100 discs total... Thanks for replying guys, this is great! What kind of prices did you guys pay for your decks?

To be honest, I have a huge mp3 collection myself, but I would wait for the technology to mature a little more. mp3 could either be a fad or the next big thing. I would suggest going to a store that has a few mp3 decks on display and messing around with them to see which ones *feel* higher quality.
Give Alpine a look too.
