Has anyone cleaned the passages to their EGR Valve? The ones that start near the throttle body. An suggestions would help. I'm going to do this to my contour because I have the code for insufficient flow to EGR. And my gas mileage has been crap for the last 3 months since I have bought the car. As in 17-18 mpg. I know my car is not that much of a beast :-p. So anyway, any suggestions or info from people who have. And YES! I have the TB gasket already. No worries there. Also know to have the UIM blocked off so now of the peices/chunks/dust goes down the tubes.

Usually that code is due to the DPFE sensor failing and not due to an EGR restriction, but try cleaning out the passage with TB cleaner and if that doesn't work, my money is on thew DPFE being shot.
On the V6 it goes out quite often due to a poor POS design.. I changed mine TWICE, until I went tubo and threw it in the trash (turned the thing off in the computer chip program).

Der...My car has issues. Yesterday I was running late for work because I didn't watch the time. So to make up, I'll put I went "fast" enough if I was caught, my lincense would have been removed. But when I did so, the light went off.
So what does that mean?

when I got the realted code, P0402, exsessive flow it was the DPFE sensor
but cleaning the TB can't hurt either

Welcome to the site by the way!
(Thanks for the pic lithium398)

Clean out the groove and three outlets. On the right side at the top of the groove there is a hole that leads through the UIM to the EGR valve (a coathanger comes in handy). To be sure you can take the EGR valve loose and blow air through.
The DPFE, EVR, EGR valve, and EGR crossover tube can also be at fault so if you still have problems test the system in an orderly fashion.

Well, Took it apart, and cleaned it. That sucker was stuffed. 2 of the 3 entries were complestly clogged, and the patheway back up into the manifold was jammed tight in the corner. I put it all back together, and went for a little ride, but the engine light is still on. I disconnected the battery thinking maybe it needed to be reset. I'm going to see if it come back on anytime soon. IF it does, I'm driving back down to autozone to get the code pulled again. see what it says this time. THe first one was insufficent flow. One problem down, another to go! lol
One question I do have is where exactly is the EGR valve? Cause I have a feeling by the way that looked, and the back of my TB looked, the EGR valve would probably look just as bad. By the way I cleaned the TB. I never new before there was a small pin head hold in the valve. It was completely blocked off. I would imagine that might have somethign to do with the idle taking forever to come down without giving it gas. It could also explain why I've though the car had a weird idle to begin with.
I also have pictures! which I will be posting up onto my site this morning if not tomorrow. I'll leave the link once they are up. And speaking of pictures, if anyone has pictures of wear the EGR is located that would help too. Thanks!

probably not. most likely u have problem w/ DPFE, but there is no harm in testing EGR valve.

are you talking about throttle hang? if so, see FAQ

remeber that you also have IAC valve which should be able to compensate for the plugged pinhole.
