they are hydraulic powered, they run off the trucks central hydraulic system. We have a similar one at work, it extends to 12 feet long and had a 1.2 hoursepower gas engine and a 10 inch bar.

$99 at Home Depot...

So far very happy with this unit. It goes to 15' and with some creative scaffolding I was cutting limbs about 20' above ground level.

I used this to take down a bunch of stuff ranging from vines to 6" tree trunks. I had 2 neighbors ask me if I wanted a 'real chainsaw' and I was like 'hehe all set'.

FWIW, never rent a chipper shreder from HD...they gave me a piece of crap that had a bad clutch belt (never tested unit before renting to me), they didn't have a replacement, and when I brought it back they questioned why I had it all day, and I didn't bring it right back. Bunch of retards...!

Later I'll put a pic of the 22HP trailerable unit I rented to replace the Tonka toy HD shredder

OK no more typing, sprained my hand in the process of doing yard work

The trailer unit chippers from Home Depot are great. As long as they had the blades sharpened recently. They will take limbs up to 5" in diameter. You can make youself a nice sized pile of wood chips pretty quickly.

that would be sweet.
but the one i saw was a separate pole the guy carried accross the lawn and used. it wasnt connected to the truck in any way.

I think HD rents different sized units. Not all "3 inch chippers" are created the same so I found out!

The HD unit was a pull-start 8HP Honda with a faulty clutch belt, the Taylor Rental unit was a 22HP elec. start Subaru with a centrifugal clutch.
